I have some poppies growing but one bunch of them have developed black stems and blotchy black heads (before flowering). These bits, leaves and unflowered heads of the plant seem to be dying really quickly before flowering. Does anyone know what might be causing it and how do I stop it?

sounds like a fungal infection, which one i'm not sure of, dig up and bin (don't compost!)
