    Hi dave

got my runners beans in 3inch peat pots which mean when they are ready they go straight into the ground no fuss

use 3 inch or 7cm pots, or deep roottrainers.

    Hi all

have planted both green and runner beans in three inch peat pots.

once ready in two weeks will be planted out direct in the pots against the canes in garden.

have done this for at least five years and had a great harvest, however don't forget to plant a few seeds at the end just in case you lose one

imageThese Aeron Purple Star runner bean plants were grown on in an unheated greenhouse, then planted out end of 1st week of May. They have now climbed about 3 feet up a cane frame (erected at the same time). Fingers crossed, no frost likely now in coastal SW Pembs (just 30 feet above sea level).

*Troughs hold just five seeds, allowing plenty of root run into seived compost circa 15cm deep.
