Uprooting Lleylandii
Building work is soon to start and I need to remove a number of Lleylandii plants for machinery to gain access to the garden. They were planted approx 3 years ago and are around 6-7ft tall. I'd like to put them back after the building work is complete but don't really have anywhere else to plant them. Can anyone suggest a way they can be kept but uprooted for about 4-6 months or am I better off chopping them down and starting again?

Hello glennplume. Some gardeners shudder at the thought of Leylandii and wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. I would suggest your best plan of action is to start again as for that length of time I think the plants might not make it. There is also the question that you might NOT be able to dig them up after 3 years.
Thanks Ladybird. The Lleylandii were part of the developments planting scheme so not my choice but I'm stuck with them! I kind of thought that 4-6 months out of the ground might be pushing it but thought I'd put it out there for some expert opinions ?
I am sure you will be able to dig them up after just 3 years. Good luck. Best to start again with new plants after the building work.

i would rip them out and plant yew. It will grow well but is not a thug like Lleylandii. Easy to cut and prune in to shape
