Mixing French Beans

Hi all,

Hope you are having a lovely weekend. I just want some advice, I have sown some climbing French Beans - Cobra - but not as many have germinated as I'd like.

So I want to buy some extra from the garden centre, but wondered if I could mix bean varieties or even peas in the same area?

All advice always welcome - Thanks!

    Hi all

i can't see any reason why you cannot plant another seed type

i have used cobra and blue lake and have always got a got harvest

i also plant runner beans in the same cane structure and always just pop a few seeds in the end of the rows so that if I loose any I can replant the ones grown direct in the soil

Always have a huge harvest and get sick of them by end of summer so freeze well and used for dinners in winter

    happy gardening

I mix em... red flowered, white flowered and dwarf and climbing french beans.. You gotta hedge your bets these days.. Certain varieties of Red flowered beans drop blossom in hot dry spells also the white tend not to suffer from this problem..The other thing Inoticed is that when Bumble beans pollinate there is also blossom drop due to the Bumble bee beeing larger and heavier..
