Phelenopsis Orchid

My orchid is in a warm place in my home, that gets hot during sunny days. I water it with 2tbsp once a week, but since the weather has got warmer, it is now starting to look shrivelled and the flowers dry. I have watered it a little more, but to no avail. Any advice would be welcome! Thanks

Hi Abby. Phalenopsis or moth orchids do better in cooler rooms. They do not like direct sunlight and if possible should always be watered with rain water. My orchids live on a north facing windowsill and get soaked with rainwater once every 2 weeks in the summer - less in winter - and I allow them to drain completely before putting them back on their saucers. I keep rain water in old squash bottles in the house so the water is always at room temperature when I soak the pots. Orchids should always be grown in a clear pot or orchid basket too so the roots can see the light.
They don't like to be too hot. Fine in a heated conservatory over winter, but that will be too hot as weather improves. Soak for 10 minutes or so every week to 10 days and drain before returning to its normal place.
thanks so much for your advice!
