Can anyone ID this lovely plant, growing in a friends pond? The one with the pink flower.

Oh goody. I have some of these in a pot and coundn't decide where to put them. I had no idea they grew in ponds (didn'y bother checking). Presumably that means they'll like the boggy bit on the bank.

    That's a beaut!

I never got mine to last through winter in the pond.

    Definitely not a true aquatic.

And hates our cold and wet.

If you fancy a nice flowering true aquatic , go for botumus umbellatus.

Shizostylus are dubious at best, like many south African plants- they hate our winter wet and cold.

    Thanks Darren.

I got mine free off the dead trolley last year so I'm not particularly precious about it. If I put it at the west end of the pond it''ll be sheltered by what's left in Winter in the herbaceous bed. The prevailing wind will be somewhat diminished by the time it gets there hopefully.

I'm scared stiff of my pond, never having done any gardening above slightly moist! It came with the house and is a monster. It's about 4.5 feet in the middle and most parts are inaccessible. At best guess it's roughly 30ft at longest and 20  feet at widest. With the result I'm dubious about putting anything in just in case I can't look after it and it goes off like a triffid. At the moment a large percentage of the surface is covered with lillies and something with smaller leaves that I don't recognise and some irises and grasses. I bale in every now and again with a flame thrower or small niece in waders to keep it looking respectable. Come the revolution it'll be lovely but until then I'm afraid it's damage limitation!

Darren what's going on with your posts????

Do you want me to mention it to Daniel Hayes or have you spoken to him already? They're mental! Not the content I mean the here they are, there they weren't!!!

Some of your threads have vanished altogether....or something. image

Send DH a personal message because even if you post on the "forum live" thread there's no guarantee that he'll see it.

Yeah, my content seems to be... Tenuous.

Others have mentioned the same issues.

My comments from last week are only visible to me!!!

Tenuous??? That's a polite way of putting it! I wondered why you'd posted a screenshot and then I realised that what was there wasn't!!!

I mentioned time warp issues the other day because I would reply to posts and that was fine but when I came back to that page later other posts had appeared.

    They're messing with our miiiiinds!!!!
