native plants, when suited to the habitat, are strong growers, that's why we call them weeds and grow fancy alien plants in our gardens instead
Glad I read this thread, for some reason I got it in my head that valerian were a shade plant and last year purposely grew some for the raggedy part of the shade border
Have moved one, will see how the others do with just their heads in the sun

There are 2 plants with the common name valerian
Centranthus rubra, the pink or white one of cliffs/walls and sun
and Valeriana officinalis, different plant altogether, likes a bit of shade and moisture. Which one have you got?
Both, but was talking about V. officinalis... Oh dear, perhaps I'd better move it back
Good idea, mine are coming up to flower now.
Really?... oh mine are only small, tallest less than 18"...I'll move it back tomorrow night, I don't think it'll mind.
Although it's got me thinking I need something tall and white for the sunny spot I moved it to?
