Do I need to soak sphagnum moss before using it in hanging baskets and half wall baskets

Hi ama1952. Have you already acquired the moss as it is avoided by some gardeners because of it being taken from the wild and depleting natural resources? There are lots of good alternatives - some even shaped to fit the mentioned baskets - to the moss. However, if you already have it, then yes it would help to soak it first
