Tree identification expertise wanted!

Can anyone help me identify this tree in our garden? We moved in in November and thus had no idea what would happen - it's a stunning tree. I just don't know what it is! Beautiful white racemes of blossom with a slight scent, leaves rather sweet-chestnut like, pale birch-like bark, straight trunk. It's beginning to send up suckers at the base.
