I have had my banana tree for about 8years. It lives outside all year round and is planted in the ground. I thought I might have lost it this year after the wind took the top 5ft of it , it is now down to 7/8 f . But no, to my surprise for the first time a huge flower bud. What luck.

What species is it? i've had a basjoo for about 5 years,it's in a huge pot, but have always brought it into the garage over winter. I did consider planting it in the ground, but it looks a bit of a fiddle faddle to protect it in winter.
