Why did Chris do that?
I know I will incur the wrath of all the females here but why did Chris Beardshaw butcher that Thuya Rheingold on tonight's Beechgrove?
a beautiful colourful conifer was brutalised......as he often does....and the result was awful.
Rheingold, for me, is a densely furnished to the ground foliage shrub.
then he turned his attention to a juniper .....could swear I saw it tremble with fear
does he deserve his place on BG?.............ha ha! This bit is meant to annoy the gals

why, what, wait a minute? beechgrove was on tonight? unless it was a repeat, was it the one where he takes off the bottom half of a conifer to lighten up the shrubs behind? i normally record it sunday mornings 9am i think bbc2. no annoyance here verdun
I've not seen the programe but I have a confession... I dug one out altogether. it got to about 6 ft high and splayed so that it no longer had the nice shape. I did root three cuttings off of it first though. I think that I would have experimented and cloud pruned it now. Adrian Bloom has done some judicious pruning of conifers at Foggy Bottom at Bressingham. Sometimes they just need it.
i can also now see into the future verdun after reading your mind as to how you manage to see into the future
Beechgrove is on a Thursday night here sanjy -other parts of UK on Sunday although I think it's shown on a Sky channel on Thursdays too.
Verd - I'd have taken the whole lot out frankly.....
And it won't resemble a hillside either - no matter how hard he tries!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Shouldn't he be down in Chelsea, bulding his Gt Ormond Street garden? Maybe he needed some Thuya cuttings to help decorate it......keep your eyes peeled when the Chelsea coverage comes around
