I got slugged

I left my greenhouse door open last night. (Not on purpose ????). I think the slugs had a party. I've lost half my courgettes (not a problem since with 20 healthy plants I'd have to set up an export business to get rid), all of my carefully pinched out bushy little peas, all but one of my sturdy little tomato plants, pumpkins, lettuce, basil, the lot. They also had a nibble on some sunflowers, tree lupins and cosmos and performed a magical vanishing act on some delphiniums.

So, what can I re-sow, what am I going to have to look for plugs of, and what do I give up on? I'm thinking tomatoes might have to be bought in, and unless I can resow delphiniums I'm not likely to find young plants for sale.

Dearest OH said 'if you didn't want the slugs why didn't you close the door', I was speechless for a good five minutes ????

shutting the door doesn't keep them out. I use pellets on benches, they hide all over the place. Tonight the greenhouse is getting slug pubs.

I've had a lot of success both in the greenhouse and outdoors by balancing trays of plants on the copper rings you can buy. The rings are quite expensive but last forever.

Might it be cheaper to get copper from a plumbers' merchant?

    In London. Keen but lazy.

Yes, probably! Copper is quite expensive anyway but I'm sure there's a big markup on the rings sold for gardening.
