Bit of an update from my previous post last September about the rescue labradors we've taken in and helped re-home. They all found themselves unwanted by their current owners, for various reasons ranging from severe neglect, to change of family circumstances. Some of the dogs stories are really sad. All have now found new homes.

The first one we took in was Rosie, used heavily for breeding and covered in fleas..

    Oakley - chocolate young lab..

    Bailey - chocolate young bitch..

    image

Murphy - he was a beautiful black lab and I really wanted to keep him but our family circumstances weren't right for us to have another dog at the time. I really fell for Murphy...

    image

Max - an old boy who was in his last years..

    image

Rolo - again another dog that I fell for...

    Alfie & Dexter

Hollie - golden lab bitch, a really old girl who was in a real mess when we found her. She had been living in a real slum of a house without carpets, and no bed for her...

Toby - 1 year old chocolate lab, unwanted due to having hip problems..

When Alfie arrived we were in a position as a family to adopt him ourselves, so he's now ours. He's a lovely affectionate dog who craves our company...

All I can say is Ah, our dogs dont have carpets, we have just laid laminate, more practical! They dont have their own beds either, because Luna chews them all up, they have to make do with sharing ours.

Our dogs have a basket each but often use each other's - seeing the Lab curl himself into the terrier's is funny - as well as the terrier's chair that she has adopted, the sofas, rugs and, when it's hot or they need to cool down after walkies, the tiled floors.

The kittens have a sheepskin, a cardboard box with an old towel, our bed, the spare bed, backs of sofas.......

    That's great leadfarmer.image

Our dogs have beds, but only bring them down in the early evening. They don't always lie in them, they like the 3 piece sweet. They have vet beds as well, but don't always use them.image

When I said no carpets, I meant there was no flooring in the house, just excrement covered floorboards with nowhere for the dog to lay.

Staffies are great dogs. I think breeders are going for the smaller 13" - 14" dogs these days. Missy is 16" tall, so going by the breed standard, she is the maximum height. She isn't KC reg though but her parents were. Missy was the only pup to survive out of a litter of 4. The others died before they were 3 weeks old and their mum wasn't producing enough milk, so Missy was hand reared from 3 weeks old.

Maya started her life in the hands of a dog hoarder. She, along with her mum, littermates and another bitch with puppies, was removed by a dog warden and ended up in a rescue at just 6 weeks old. She was then adopted by a family at 12 weeks old. They gave her up, claiming that she was "aggressive". She was 7 months and 22 days old when she was brought to me as an emergency foster. She was frightened of everything, not house trained and had no confidence. It took me 3 months of careful, patient handling just to be able to approach her with a collar, harness or lead without her backing into a corner, cowering and shaking. She was frightened of any sudden movement, especially if anyone moved a hand quickly. Signs that she had been hit.

She is now a happy, confident, cheeky, playful pup. She hasn't shown any signs of aggression in any way whatsoever in the 11 months I've had her. She does behave like a much younger puppy than she is, but I put that down to the way she has been treated in the past.

LeadFarmer, my "ah" was meant as in ah they are so cute! The rest was meant to be light heartened, sorry if I was misunderstood, course I knew some people treat their animals badly, and other human beings, that gorgeous little 4 year old girl on todays paper, breaks your heart.
