Yes, open plan bungalow, Luna is 15 months. Before we moved here, Leo, and our other 2 both border collies slept quite happily in a utility room with dog flap. When we lost our blue, Leo would howl at night so Hubby let him sleep in our room, which was a pain because, he would wake you up in the night for a wee! Holly happily slept downstairs. So when we moved here, we put them together in the conservatory, with dog flap installed. Right from the word go, Holly, started pushing down the puppy gate (same one we had at the last place) it was really tight, so started damaging the door frame. Plus Leo whined quite loudly. So we let them in the bungalow, Leo went under the chest in our room and Holly on floor or sofa in lounge.Luna started whining a few months back. Vet said get Leo to sleep out there with her he wasnt having any of that, although we are detached the neighbours could hear them, So rather than having them keeping us up or waking us up, I sleep really badly anyway, and hubby has to get up at 5, desided the option was to let them in our room.
NB, Luna is still young so she will get over the weeing. Our first goldie did that when he was a puppy,he grew out of it. Don't know what you can do about keeping them out the bedroom.
Oh not bothered about keeping them out of the bedroom, - at night, she doesnt do it when we are in bed with her. I must just remember to close bedroom, doors, she nips in the spare room and murders the little wooden dolls in the grandkids dolls house, I put the vacuum cleaner in front of it, if you move it, even without using it to vacuum, shes gone! yet she can overcome her fear to nick the little people!
Both ours are rescue dogs. When we first got Rasta, aged 11 months, we hadn't a clue and let her go all over the house which included leaping on us in bed in the morning. Took her to doggy and owner training once she'd had all her jabs and got over kennel cough and was told to give her a cage with her own cushion and food and water bowls in it. This was to be her personal space and she would sleep there at night, shut in, with no problems.
When Bonzo arrived he was a nervous wreck and frightened of everything so he got a cage too and would go in there of his own accord when he was worried. Handy too for when people came round and he barked and bounced at them.
Since the house went on the market their cages have been moved into the garage out of the way but they both now know that upstairs is out of bounds and sleep on the sofas or in their basket as they decide.

We let our first one upstairs, but he would pick things up and go downstairs under the dining table and we wouldn't be able to get the things off him. So we got a stair gate,if it's left open they won't go up there. Of course if I'd want him to hold something he wouldn't. I could never get him to retrieve anything when we were at training. The trainer said golden retrievers are the worst to train to do that, but I've done it with the others. We've got a cage, when we had our second dog the breeder said it would be better to put the puppy in at night so he wouldn't get squashed lying in the other's bed.
something wrong with this site, I used to get e-mail notifications of all my followed sites, havent had any, nothing to do with Pets, but i had a letter printed in October GW and got a £10 garden centre voucher, woohoo!!
I know we give the dogs the bed, and put in the crate back in the conservatory and Hubby and I sleep in that! She usually just curls up down the bottom and is no problem, I just felt it wasnt fair for our neighbours for her to be barking, there are plenty of other dogs that do that late at night/in the night.
NB. If it's better for you, don't worry. Our's don't mind being downstairs. We used to have one of those baby monitors that you plug in,but they make a lot of noise and I couldn't get to sleep. But their ok without it.That's good about your voucher.I wone a ipod a few years ago, never wone anything before.Hubby put all my Carpenters CDs on it and now I have a sound bomb,so I don't have to use the head phones.
Last weekend bracken got runs,he got over it the next day. Then barley got it,he got over it the next day.Now they've both got it. Berry's just been for his walk now he's got it,it's something they've picked up.

You will have to close the door of that bedroom as well.
