As we are rural and have 5 acres the dogs get free roaming whilst "at home" I have to admit they are not used to being on a lead tho can do it if they have to. Also we find they stay healthier if in our patch.
There can be so many nasty things out in the fields and the river has definitely been used as a dumping ground by someone. We always seemed to be at the vet. The last time was a serious laceration caused by dumped wire.
We are so fortunate to have a field and do lots of training and games in it which they love. Everyone is happy and lots of visits from other dogs keeps everyone sociable.

No, I have never had a weakness Patsy! I was nursing a million years, never had any back trouble, folk hlf my age were complaining of bad backs (and no, they didnt do any gardening!) I find if I sit about (yes, I confess I do sometimes!!) I get stiff and achy, last time was just some little movement in the end, it wasnt getting any better, have a brilliant osteopath, unfortunately, a long drive, but he sorted it out last time.Yes, ours play in the garden, I see Luna has been "playing" with the cosmos I planted in pots by the patio doors! 2 Days ago, OH found her "playing" with a heucera waiting to be planted!! There has been a lot of bad press in the newspapers the last few months about the RSPCA. They would allow us to have a bitch because my OH had a bitch, she was 17 then, so we were keen to get another dog, and felt it would be nice to rescue. The chap opposite, his son lived in a flat, worked all day, AND was allowed to home a dog from then!
Sorry they wouldnt allow us to have a bitch, I have had dogs and bitches, OH had only had the one and didnt want a dog. We ended up buy 2 Border collie bitches 7 months apart, and YES it worked out absolutely fine!
I know the experts say 4 years apart, but you never know when you are going to loose a dog, I know what we did is absolutely NOT recommended, I am not even sure why we did it, THEN we ended up with Leo, as well, he was my cat substitute!
It's alright as long as you didn't have them together, you had them 7 months apart. The breeder we had Logan, moss, bracken and barley from, woud'nt let us have 2 together. Just before I chose Logan, i couldn't make up my mind, and joked and said we would have 2,and she said no.L Logan and moss were a year apart, moss and willow were 2 years apart.
Hi all, this morning hubby brought bracken back from his walk and said bracken had stood on a wasp and got stung on his pad,so I got some vinegar and cotton wool and put some on and seems to be alright now.
Hello logan, hope Bracken is OK now, our last Border Collie but one, used to try and eat them, got stung, and would then go all dizzy, but quite quickly recovered. I have met folk (walking our 2) who were allowed to have 2 puppies from the same litter. If Luna goes on as long as the others, I thin I am too old for another puppy. MIND YOU, she might not make it! OH went to bed Saturday, she had chewed 2 holes in the brand new duvet cover, we just bought to replace the one she made holes in a couple of weeks ago, I wasnt going to replace it, (I have others) but this one matched the curtains. Lesson, learnt - bedroom doors closed unless we are in there. But for 3 stone of muscle, she is so fast, and sneaky, (I think shes like the "terminator", no 3?, who sort of melted like quick silver and poured around!)OH opened the front door yesterday, I was sitting on the sofa, (place is open plan) I saw her "melt" past him, I knew he hadnt seen her, and he has amazing long sight and very quick reactions, was very surprised when I "mentioned" she had gone out the door.Wednesday, she has her injections, booked with local Vet not my old long term one, they use different stuff, he assured me the "excitment/nervous peeing would stop by a year, it hasnt! With the grandkids, they are so pleased to see her (and visa versa) cannot get them to ignore her, and with the Vet, she will just leave a trail I find soooh embarrasing!
Hi NB,bracken is ok now thanks.it only bothered him for a couple of hours. Yes I've spoke to a woman who had 2 puppies together from a breeder. It's difficult to remember to close doors every time.Do you live in a bungalow? We have a stair gate down the bottom of the stairs so they can't get up. Our first goldie would pick anything up and we couldn't get it off him,so that's why we had it. Got one on the conservatory as well. How old is Luna?

When we have puppies, they're always about a year or 2 apart,it's better that way for both the puppies and us.
I know the experts say 4 years apart, but you never know when you are going to loose a dog, I know what we did is absolutely NOT recommended, I am not even sure why we did it, THEN we ended up with Leo, as well, he was my cat substitute!
