Good news Logan.  Well done Bracken.

PP - our Labrador rescue is afraid of the sea.  Loves splashing on ponds and puddles but when we took him to the Atlantic coast he didn't like the sound of the waves or the white frothy stuff chasing his paws.  Clearly doesn't know what he was bred for!  The Wheaten terrier style rescue dog was quite happy and she used to hate water but has learned form the Lab that it can be good fun and full of interesting fossicking possibilities.   She regularly needs a hose down.

We called her Rasta.  If we don't keep her coat trimmed every 2 months she goes from teddy bear to dreadlocks.   The Lab is called Bonzo but often called Bozo.  He is one of those puppy Labs that will never grow up.   The woman who rescued him from a  tiny terrace where he had spent almost 3 years never going out, never being walked or trained or house trained called him U2.  I wasn't having that and like to have an S or Z in may pets' names so went with Bonzo Dog (Doodah Band) who were also daft as brushes.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  • Amazing how some folk treat their dogs,Ob, where we used to live the guy had a HUGE lab/shepherd cross, about 10 st, he was friendly, then the girl got a rescue shepherd, that had been kept tied up as a guard dog, aparently,  he would go mad if you got near the adjoining fence, I wouldnt trust him. well, neither were ever walked, she was in her 30s, 6 feet tall, so they barked, sometimes 20 hours out of 24, started early morning, she had horses went at 5 am, she worked as a part-time cleaner, no kids, Her boyfriend worked away a lot, (he never walked dogs either when he was there)  We actually backed onto fields at this point, and about 3 minutes walk over railway lots of fields. When they went out socially, they would come back gone midnight, that would start the dogs off again.  I was working nights, our kitchens were in the front, the dogs barked at everything that went by, so I asked her nicely, if she could put the dogs in the lounge at the back. Her Mum came by lunch time let them out for a wee, and back indoors.  The barking was so loud, it rattled the windows.  The cross used to jump over and poo in our garden, one day, she stood and watched with her Mum, I cracked ,said come and clear it up, (first time) she said it wasnt her dog, it was her boyfriends and walked off.  2 years, I cant sleep, night or day, rang council, who, werent really interested, young girl suggested I walk the dogs for her, I had 4 kids, and worked 60 hours a week, and 5 feet tall.  The reason she didnt walked them is because she couldnt manage them. One day, Hubby is erecting our conservatory, the cross was thundering at him, on a ladder in the doorway, and charged indoors, then went out and pooed, my Hubby cracked, said thats the last time your effing dog poos in my garden. The council wrote to them, annonimously, but of course she thought it was us, came over and called my Husband a c--t, I had never heard a female use that word!  Then dog poo on my garden furniture, table, chairs, Hubby couldnt believe it was her.  We had a couple he worked with, we used to play badminton with, I got friends with her Mum who was my age, met her up the village one day, she said she had fallen out with my neighbour because of me!! Eh, well, they had horses at the same stables, one day, she went home with my neighbour, saw her pick up the (huge) dog poo and put it on my table, she was tiny, under 5 feet, wouldnt say boo to a goose, had severe depression, told my neighbour if she ever saw her do that again she would put the next pile in her face, and never spoke to her again. She also saw the boyfriend, (who I thought was a really sweet guy) kicking his dog in the stomach!

Thanks PatsyF,yes you have to think of penny.

NB it's a good thing that you moved. I know of someone who has 2 small dogs, the one won't go out, he thinks that he can walk the other one when the weather is good.He asked me,do i get fed up walking my dogs.I said no,that's why I have them.image

  • Luckily, one dog died, the other was re-homed, because  they split and moved, so we didnt have to tell potential new owners about any previous problems.  I have to be honest, sometimes if i am not feeling well, or whatever yes, I would admit to feeling less than enthusiastic about the idea of walking the dogs.Baysitting at my daughters today, she has a 2 hour job interview, so they will get a nice run in Ashdown Forest on the way to hers, then lots of fuss and playing when the grandkids come out of school.

  • The folk the other side of them had a dog from the RSPCA, came to us to do a home check, (desided our quarter of an acre garden was medium) I asked them what they called the plots of todays gardens then, she was going to visit these other people, their shepherd was also nasty, 2 people I met walking their dogs had been cornered and bitten by it, but they did nothing.  I mentioned the neighbours with the 2 and was told that dogs dont need to go for walks! I know a lot of folk think they go for walks to go to the toilet, mine usually do that in the garden, they dont go for walks as such, they get a bit of lead work, for control work, then a really good run off the lead, for fun, exercise, stimulation. Logan, kind of mentioning, do you get fed up walking dogs, I said occasionaly not feeling up to it, for whatever reason, changed my bedding yesterday, just before leaving for my daughters, got the duvet, gave it a shake, that was all only a lightweight one, just straightening it, and the back "went" instant pain, knew what it was had the same thing the other side a few months back.  Oh, it was agony, and I had a 40 mile drive, the dogs did get a nice run in Ashdown Forest about halfway to her house, nearly killed me mind! Thankfully, today it is fine!
