Rose Garden

We have just spent several weekends and evenings bltizing our rose garden. We have added 6 more roses so have approximately a dozen rose plants (a mixture of hybrid tea, patio, climbers, ramblers). This has now been mulched with bark chippings now to keep the weeds at bay!

The rose bed is edged in box and in addition to the roses we also have a few lavender plants and a few cottage garden flowers which we have left so not aiming for a formal bed but a tidy one!

I would love some suggestions of some perennial flowers to plant amongst the roses for some colour.

Many thanks!

Geraniums work really well I have quite a few underplanting roses in my garden.

Ornamental alliums and lavender are great companions and help deter aphids which don't like their smell.

Hardy geraniums and heucheras make great ground cover hummocks of attractive foliage with the bonus of flowers.  Which you use depends on your soil and aspect and exposure.

I also have hardy cyclamens, snowdrops, daffodils, hyacinths, pulsatilla, aquilegia, London Pride and penstemons in my main rose bed.   In another more shaded bed I have variegated ground elder, violets and hellebores under the roses.
