Slugs on compost

I've just been out on slug patrol with my torch.  Still a few about but spring application of Nematodes seems to have done wonders.

Strangely I have no issue with slicing slugs in half but then I come across a snail and lose my bottle.  It's something about the shell - not sure what.

So I found what appeared to be a snail mothership in some grass cuttings at the edge of the lawn.  I collected about 10 in a jar with the intention of taking them far away from my garden.

However, on the way out I passed my compost heap.  There were already a load of slugs and snails munching away on various bits and pieces so I just decided (possibly in a moment of madness) to dump these guys on top.

Am I crazy?  Will they happily reside on the compost heap or will they be back for my tender, young plants?

Homing snails. Throwing them over the fence doesn't work. they slime back. Stamping on them finishes them off.

can't bring myself to do it fidget.  I know they are the same ugly slimers under that shell but for some reason in my mind they hold special status.  I just hope they are happy with their compost home.
