Gummosis on Prunus

I have a 4 year old Prunus Okame whose leaves are shrivelling and going brown also just noticed a clear gel seeping from a branch.  Through the internet I have discovered (or think) this condition is called Gummosis but can't seem to find a straightforward answer to how to tackle this problem.

Has anyone come across this condition and how was it dealt with.
