Plant identification help please

Could someone please help me identity this plant.  It was given to me by a friend but they have no idea what it is. It was in a small pot when it arrived and looked half dead so I replanted it with new compost in a larger pot and have hoped for the best.

I've assumed it's a climber so have put it up against the shed until I can confirm what it needs.
