I have recently bought an olive tree (to commemorate the birth of my first grandson, Oliver). I have potted it on into a 14" wide, 12" deep pot. This leaves plenty of room all round. Can I plant bedding plants/ annuals around the edge? Any ideas?
Trees in pots don't really allow for bedding plants as well, it's just a bit crowded. You might find it preferable to have them in separate pots next to it. I planted some box plants next to mine, not very exciting but I didn't want to steal focus (The pots are the more decorative glazed ones, rather than terracotta, so it was about them too).
By-the-way if you've not had an Olive tree in a pot before make sure you keep it well watered, they're surprisingly thirsty!
This is my olive tree in the middle. It's 3 years since I had it and although it's moved to this pot this year I always have had a display of annuals around it that have done well. This year I've got white violas. Water it well in a pot it dries out quickly
