Is this possible?

Hello,

I wondered if I could get you advice regarding growing fruit + veg. I haven't grown before and would like to do so in an unused part of the garden.

It's a back yard of a victorian house. I am thinking of screwing a felt grow bag to the wall and potting herbs, fruit and salads.

The garden is facing north and has hight walls either side. Is this a pointless pursuit?

Thank you

Emma

Hi Emma. Judging from the picture you posted I would hold fire on growing fruit and vegetables unless you get 3-4 hours of sun a day. If that is the case there are a few things you might be able to grow but perhaps not in a vertical planter. If you have a sunny windowsill then there are more options for you. Herbs will grow there and you can get the tiny tomatoes that will also do well.

I think the only thing that will grow well there are ferns.image

I agree, not a good place for herbs, fruit and veg; they need sun, apart from maybe mint.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
  • Glad I read this, i'll now re-plan my re-plan.

Verdun's comment is valid, nothing to do with size of garden, choose plants that suit the situation you have if you want them to thrive
