Lichen
Hi - can anyone please advise if the lichen on my Azalea is going to eventually kill it? It's crept along the branches leaving only the tips to produce leaf & flower or is there anything I can do to halt/kill it?

Hi Jennie 3. Lichen is non-parasitic so won't harm your azalea. However, azaleas that are not thriving are very prone to this type of colonisation. Feed your azalea frequently to make it stronger. A good thing to note is that your air quality is good as these lichen types will not grow in polluted air and they can be seen all over older trees in the Lake District.
I love that lichen is more prevalent now. I think it gives a mature look to a garden

I can remember noticing lichen for the first time when I was about 12 years old walking through an oak wood on Dartmoor. Although I lived on a farm in very rural part of Suffolk I'd not noticed lichen on trees before. Now we've even got lichen on our trees in a more or less suburban garden.
