The green of spring

VerdunVerdun Posts: 23,348

what a lovely time of year this is for GREEN.  All shades of green...fresh foliage suddenly swamping trees, shrubs and perennials.

a walk to the beach earlier this morning in the mist helped me appreciate the beauty of nature even without flowers. Relaxing and awe inspiring.image

hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the great outdoors today too image

It's raining here today, so I didn't go out yet, but I know what you mean, Verdun. I was surprised yesterday by the sudden abundance of new leaves. Wonderful greens everywhere. In my garden I especially like the fresh green of hosta leaves (almost unblemished thanks to the copper tape) and the dark leaves of the peonies.

Hi Verdun. I agree with you. My very favourite green - although they are all fantastic - is the first flush of green on the hawthorn. Beautiful! After all the dark and dreary Winter days we have had this season, that new growth lifts the spirits. To complement this joyous time is the dawn chorus. Love love love it! Have a wonderful day yourself.

  • Loving the green here too! We wait and wait for it to arrive - and then we are so rewarded. It's important to take time every day to appreciate it.

Behind my house, there's a big hill with a forest on it - even from a distance, I can see the green creeping across it, changing every day. So beautiful when the light hits it.

The speed of change is amazing at this time of year.  Just over a week ago our crab apple didn't have any flowers on it. Now it is absolutely smothered.

Flower stalks seem to grow as you watch them, and my Hostas are definitely visibly larger each day.

This time last week my beech hedge was still bare with a few dead brown leaves clinging on from the winter. A few days of warm sun and it's now a beautiful pale, fresh green.

The copper beech tree is now smothered in salmon pink immature leaves.

The crab apples are a foam of white blossom

And everywhere the birds are busy busy busy

Nice thread Verdun. Even though I love my flowers I do appreciate the diversity of foliage too.

I gathered together some of my many pots for a group photo this morning (no blooms allowed).

Here are my 14 shades of green.
