Super Sweet 100
Hi Y'all, I haven't been on for a while. Did everyone have success with the Tomato 'freebie' S.Sweet 100 in Aprils GW? I sowed half mine in a heated propagator @ 18c and out of this (8) got one seedling. I resowed the remainder about twelve days back and got no seedlings. Since I have grown Tomatoes for 40 years I am dumbfounded at the lack response from an F1 supposedly superstar variety. I must add that at the time I first sowed, I also sowed Nimbus and Harbinger with 100% germination rate. I also sowed, the second time, as insurance, 8 Gardeners Delight seeds and got 6 plants; oddly enough this seed packet was purchased in 2012 with a 'sow by' date of 06/14!! Oh, the irony.

There was another thread on here a while back, very few people getting any success with them. You're not alone!
I had a similar result with my first batch (I posted a photo on this thread http://www.gardenersworld.com/forum/talkback/free-super-100-tomato-seeds/956275.html )
However the GW team sent me another pack of seeds through the post and these have achieved a very acceptable rate of germination and I've just pricked out 10 very sturdy seedlings.
I'm wondering whether there's something that the seeds don't like about the process of being stuck on the front of a magazine, stacked in a pile somewhere, put in a polythene sleeve and posted ...

Had poor result with the free packet of Summer Sensation cosmos this year. minimal germination rate from two sowings. And I've been growing cosmos for years...
