Serious moss in lawn
We have bought a cottage which has been used for family holidays for many years. The lawn is best described as 80%+ moss and the odd blade of grass.
The area is probably 100m squared.
Having been doing some research we came across this product which implies no scarifying. As we are currently some 230 miles from the property we are doing long distance gardening when we can pop up there.
Mo Bacter is the stuff and whilst hoping it might be the magic answer we would like to know if it really works!
any help appreciated.

We all do love a bit of magic.
The "glow" is just drying on me after cutting my grass and I was noticing how mossy it is. I hope you don't mind if I mooch on your thread. I was going to start one later.
I haven't come across that product but I do know there are few quick fixes. My other concern is that with 80% (at least) of my lawn being moss, what would it be like if I killed it with a weed and feed moss killer?
Someone wise will be along soon.
Let's bump this up a bit in case the scrollers get RSI!
Bump!
I haven't heard of this product but I imagine it kills the moss. It is unlikely to stop it regrowing because moss is caused by a number of problems, none of which can be sorted out with chemicals. When the moss dies it looks awful, but it is one step towards green grass. First you need to know why you have moss and then whether you are prepared to do anything about it. After all, moss is quite green, too.
You can apply as much moss killer as you want but in the end the only long term solution is to solve the issue of drainage and sunlight. Moss only grows in grass where those two issues are prevalent.
As far as we know the lawn has pretty much been untended apart from the odd cut for some 60 years.
We purchased a Mantis tiller today with a lawn care kit as well so the poor thing is in for a real shock as it is going to be de-thatched and aerated to boot. Things are about to change....

Wondering if it would be more beneficial to go over the lawn using the aeration kit before starting on the moss removal? Only got two days to give the job before I have to return to the old house and it will be a month before I can get back up to it.

Well I took off 21 builders barrows of thatch, treated with the above product on a small part and a more normal moss killer on most of it so in a months time I will see what has been achieved.
The moss has been a problem in several gardens in the area due to the wetness last season and a soggy winter so as the situation is pretty much south west there is lots of sunlight and although I was unable to aerate with the tiller (the ground is very hard from lack of rain ironically) I hope to achieve that later in the season.
