Allium problems

I planted lots of allium bulbs last autumn but for some reason my purple sensation Alliums aren't showing any signs of sending up a flower head yet I just have leaves with the tips turning yellow brown all of my other varieties alliums have tall flower spikes any ideas what I'm doing wrong with my purple sensation or am I just being impatient !?

Some of mine don't have flower spikes yet Helen.  But plenty of time for them to get going yet. Apart from the last couple of days, its been quite a cold spring, which might hold them back a bit.

I wondered if that was the problem thanks chicky !! I love alliums they've been my garden nemesis for years I've never had much success with them even though they are supposed to be easy to grow and other peopplease in my village manage to grow them so it can't my soil !! Fingers crossed they appear. !!

Same here Helen for my Purple S, but they seem to have put a spurt on with the sun this week.  I'm not worried about the Alliums which'll doubtless be back at full strength next year but am annoyed about the gap after the spring bulbs!

  • I have had the same problem with my alliums this year. They all grew great last year but this year I have had a few start growing the leaves which then started dying back.I now have leaves which are flat to the ground and disappearing and no signs of a flower stalk.I don't think a stalk will appear now so will have to wait till next year to see what happens then. The great mysteries of gardening.

Ditto here in London. White ones been in bloom for a week, but P Sensation shoots are only just coming up now.

I've now got probably 2/3rds of my Purple Sensations through and in flower or about to here in Notts.  Perhaps the other third have bitten the dust, but they're cheap enough, so I'll get some more in autumn.  Always a pleasure to see the purple, especially against a light-green background.

Mine have been good this year, I'm in the west mids and Purple Sensation are doing well I've even had some come through which I thought I had lost last year.

I am having a different problem with my purple sensation aliums.  Quite a few of them are simply bending over about 3 inches down the stem from the flower head.  They are not being eaten through or damaged by insects that I can outwardly see, they are simply keeling over like a shepherd's crook.  Any ideas?
