Shrub and tree identification

Hi, we've just moved into our house and have a shrub and a tree we can't identify. Hoping someone can help ????

    The first one I think is solanum crispum and the second one looks like berberis purpurea but I'm prepared to be corrected. Has the second one got nasty spikes on it?

    Still looks like berberis leaves to me but I'm the opposite of expert. Nut'll know.

    Yeah, I've never seen one that old, it must love the conditions there!  Mine isn't doing very well and just about manages to stay alive each year. image
