Plant ID

Emma28Emma28 Posts: 42

These plants are thriving in my small pots for other seedlings (this one sprouted with my basil). As first I thought some stray wild strawberry seeds had some how gotten into my seed compost but now I'm not so sure.

Can anyone ID them? They're robust but not too aggressive.

Oh dear. I've used up all my id powers for the day and I'm afraid I'm no help at all. Someone'll know.

Hi Emma 28. Hmmmmm these look very much like celandines to me and they can be very invasive. I cannot get rid of them. The only plus point is that they disappear by summer. If you look at the base you might find a tiny little corm or bulbil. This is how they multiply and even the tiniest one broken off will grow next Spring

Thank you! I definitely don't want that sharing a pot with my basil then.

image Put it into the green recycling bin - make sure it doesn't leave any 'pups' behind.
