Foxes digging up bulbs...

3rd post in as many days - apologies for being so needy.

Does anyone have any tips for deterring foxes?  Some detective work has proved that a fox visits the garden every night, digs up bulbs in the flower beds and pots, leaves them, and moves on.

It jumps over the fence so I'm not able to block entry into the garden, but have read about other possible options - has anyone had any success with these?

- chemical deterrents

- chilli powder / garlic

- chicken wire over pots until plants are established

- rocks in pots and flower beds

I also read that human urine could help, but not sure the neighbours would appreciate that :)

I sprinkle holly where they poo and their paths. Is this way you can divert them to another part of the garden and with any luck into someone else's

    In London. Keen but lazy.

I saw some deterrent powder(?) at Longacres GC they had quite a selection but yes I've heard and tried peeing where it enters and so far so good!

  • Our fox does not dig up my bulbs, instead it plants hens eggs in my containers which have been pinched form a neighbours chickens a few houses up. We have heard about the urinating too. .We used to have a rat that had a run at the back of my garden - were advised about urinating where it walked so on a dark night my partner obliged after a few John Smiths and we have not seen the rat since .

Not tried it for the fox though
