There are tulips around it but it looks somehow like a different plant (though a bulbous one, obviously). Any idea what its name might be? It's very delicate.

Looks like a tulip that is nearly over.

Definitely a tulip, it will be a species one, such as Kaufmanniana.
Thank you all. I will keep looking out for it - at least I know to look amongst tulips now, I was so convinced that it was something else :-)
It looks remarkably similar to Sparaxis Tricolour, apart from the white parts.
Oh my goodness, I've just looked up sparaxis and if it isn't one then I'd be amazed!
