Does Baking Eggshells, make them more effective against Snails and Slugs??

Some people seem to think so ogster - I think it possibly makes them harder and therefore less easy to cross... not sure
I don't find any of these 'solutions' work - we have very hard a**ed slugs up here - not easily deterred!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
