palm tree or similar
in Plants
Is it possible to grow a palm tree or similar plant to a shrub size? Wish to have plants in a small area down the side of a driveway, but have no ideas if it is possible. Can you grow from seed or is it easier to buy already grown. Do not have lots of money to spend. Any ideas welcome

I find that the ones I have, which is a date palm and a chusan palm, are so slow growing that they will stay the perfect size for a fair few years.
I wouldn't advise growing one from seed as they are such slow growers it would just take years to get to any size.
Palms aren't particularly cheap but they do last forever and are worth the money in years. Or you can wait for a sale like I did and purchase one then.
Hope this helps a little!
I wouldn't bother with a date palm as they are prone to rotting in the crown after wet winters (like this one!) unless they are wrapped and protected. Chusan palm is a good choice as is chamaerops. Shop around for the best prices.
Alternatively, what about trying a cordyline for an exotic effect?
