Improving Clay Soil for Lawn
Hi there,
I am new to this forum but would appreciate some advice. I have been in my property for two years now and have just got round to doing the back garden.
I have approached this without a clue and hope I haven't done anything wrong so far.
I have taken off the lawn and underneath is wonderful heavy clay! I have a rotavator and my plan was to spread sharp sand all over it before I rotavate to help improve the clay?
My plan is to relay turf afterwards and want it to have decent drainage. Please advise if this is a good idea or if not then what I should do instead
Thanks

sounds like plan.
you dont need to strip the turf, the alternative of using a garden fork to aerate the soil and then brushing sharp sand over the holes will do the job- takes a few seasons though.
rotavate the sand into the top layer of subsoil, then walk up and down, firming the soil with your heels, leave for at least a week then lay turf.
