Planning my pergola...

Hi folks. My H is (he assures me) building me a long, sturdy wooden pergola in the next couple of months. It's partially to help support a long metal trellis which the previous owners built in the middle of a bed, which has now broken due to the weight of a hefty clematis on it,  and a swinging around a bit. So, the pergola will sit alongside the metal trellis, which will be tied into it and give it the support it needs, plus lots more room for the existing plants on the trellis to grow over.

I'm planning to plant rambling roses down at points down the pergola, and obviously the clematis will also mix in, but what else can I plant which will climb over well and give me as much of an extended period of interest? It's going to be about ten metres long, so I've got scope to add.

Any ideas would be great, thanks! Colour wise - I'm going for light pink roses, so perhaps white and deeper red/blush as well?

Thanks!

    This sounds smashing!

I've only got direct experience of growing a couple of roses.

Madame Alfred carriere and Little rambler

But I'd never want to garden without them!

Looking forward to seeing what recommendations you get

    cirrhosa clematis

    early spring cartmanii type clematis

    montana clematis

clematis recta at the base of the uprights

    stauntonia

stick some wires in and have soft fruit

     flowering quince

cotoneaster or similar would give flowers and berries and look great trained up a pillar
