How to evenly distribute & maintain my Ivy Hedge?

Hi, my hedge was partly destroyed by neighbours using weed killer in their garden which spilled over to my side and ruined the hedge but since then ivy has started to grow. I was previously advised to grow an ivy hedge instead but it's just clumping at certain points instead of growing all over the hedge so I was wondering what's the best way to grow it evenly so that it forms a proper hedge, all over?

Check the photo to get a better idea of what I mean, thanks. The far left is the last surviving part of the normal hedge and then moving right for the next two thirds it's the dead hedge with the ivy growing up. Ivy is also covering the ground all around the base of the hedge. How do I even it out so that the ivy forms a proper hedge?

  • It looks like there are several stems of ivy hanging down, so I would train them up the dead hedge. Then just wait for it to grow.

Thanks for the reply, I tried doing that (as the picture is a few months old) but it doesn't seem to be growing at all. Also there is a part of the hedge which is completely destroyed at the base/trunk/stem level, so there's just a hole in the hedge. I'm concerned that this might happen to the rest of the hedge too so that basically the whole hedge will just crumble and disappear. Is there a way to stop it from happening?

By the way has something happened to the site because it looks a bit strange at the moment or is it my computer?
