Do I have one specimen tree or a hedge?

our neighbour has allowed a leylandii to grow to roof height only 5 metres from our back wall, it has broken our fence and continues to push against it.

there are four visible trunks but all joined at the base.  Are they four trees planted closely together, in which case we can bring in the hedge law or is it a specimen tree?

thanks for any advice on this troublesom matter.  Our decking is now in shade from 3 pm

Have you spoken to your neighbour about it? You can contact your council on what you can do they will give you advice but it sounds like it's a hedge not a specimen, but you still have rights if it's causing problemsimage

thanks for the advice - the neighbour/owner  is uncooperative, he rents the flats out and is not interested in spending any money.  He has ignored our requests on two previous occasions.  I am just concerned as the council have told us we can only take action if it is a hedge and we have to pay £600 upfront to get them involved!

we will try once more with the neighbour as I know we have to show that we have tried to resolve the dispute first.

I am just trying to avoid a fee if we don't have a hedge!

has he pruned it (as in hedge trimming?) if so then its a hedge as he's maintaining it as such.

you could just take the bottom of the fence out and hammer a few copper nails into it (but I didn't mention that)
