Tomato plants
in Fruit & veg
Hi all,
I have grown some tomato plants from seed, do i put them singly into pots or do they go straight into a grow bag?
Thanks
Dave

At that size they could go into 6" pots, but if the growbag is going to be in a greenhouse they could go straight into that. Either way, plant deeply - up to the lowest leaves - as extra roots will grow from the stem.
Be very careful not to damage the roots as you're disentangling them.
Next year, try pricking them out into individual 3" pots as soon as they're big enough to handle, then pot on into 6" pots and finally into their permanent homes. At each stage, plant a little deeper.
I don't have a greenhouse, i will plan to put one in when i redesign the garden.
They have been growing in the conservatory, i guess i'll stick them in 6" pots and leave them there for the time being.
I Have grown them in a conservatory before now in individual large pots and they did very well so good luck. I left them in there all year.
A conservatory.......nice.
Conservatory is fine for them Dave but make sure you ventilate really well. It gets volcanically hot in them! You can open greenhouses up and go out and leave them without too many issues, but if you're out, it's more tricky to leave a conservatory open.
Keep a good amount of space round the individual plants too - the foliage gets big very quickly and they can be more susceptible to pests if they're crowded. Keep a good, consistent regime of watering if you have them in pots too - they'll dry out far more quickly than ones outside.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
