Rockery soil mix

Hi, I've spent the weekend creating a rock garden/alpine garden type thing, and reading endless how to stuff on the internet, alot if it being contradictory. I decided to go with the topsoil, sand and horticultural grit mix soil mix, for the top layer. But I think the fertility just wont be high enough to support plants like dianthus, sedum, Aubrieta etc. Any thoughts would be really appreciated, especially on how to remedy it.

Marisa, most Alpine plants that grow in this type of terrain do not require much fertiliser so I don't think you need to worry too much. The fact that you have used topsoil in your mix will probably provide enough fertility. As the rockery settles you can fill up any crevices with your mix. Good luck.

That mix sounds absolutely perfect for your purpose Marisa - don't worry image

Much thanks for the advice/reassurance. Worrying seems to be my default setting at the moment image I suppose I could just add compost to the plants that need a bit extra fertility when I plant them out anyway.

I'll be planting up some Alpines in the next week or so, I've decided to go with a 50/50 mix of John Innes No.3 and Horticultural Grit, so here's hoping it works image
