Entirely inspiring. I have planted up a tree bed under the plane tree outside my house in London. This is the first year that the planting has been a success, rather than a patchy effort. I've chosen lots of self seeders so I hope the planting will more or less look after itself and I just add water and tlc.

I live down a lane. Have done for 20 years and every year twice a year I spray weedkiller down one of the verge which is full of docks, dandelions etc.  I cultivate plants on the other side outside my fence - nigella, welsh poppies, cerinthe etc. The lane is not owned by the council, it is private. Last year the council came along and sprayed weedkiller right down the lane and all along the border of my fence killing all my cultivated plants. I was raging!!!

That's not okay! Did you report it? The kids from the local school across from the large park planted a bee friendly border with lots of Borage & wildflowers etc & an idiot cutting the grass decided to mow straight through it despite staff asking him to stop. The situation ended up 4th page of the local newspaper. Similarly, another numpty on a ride-on lawnmower knocked into the postbox outside our house and left it swinging on its hinges.

There was a mall roundabout with one of those old fashioned finger posts on it near where my parents used to live The chap in the cottage opposite used to grow sweet peas up the sign post every year. It always made me smile image.

I think your efforts are fantastic Hefty - I hope lots of people follow suit. No guerilla gardening here as it's very rural and would risk letting garden plants going feral into the wild - there are plenty of wildflowers anyway. Now gorilla gardening - I have been so accused from time to time. Usually when I break another spade handle image

    Brilliant, well done.

I have been doing similar at the back of our garden fence on rough land our house developer left. I'm always conscious of the funny looks I get from cars passing by and, one day, I was planting a rhododendron the developer had abandoned beside a new plot when an older chap on a bicycle stopped. 'What are you up to?' he said, and I was stealing myself for a battle. 'Planting a rhododendron', I said, 'I live over the back.' Well....this guy couldn't have been happier. He congratulated me on my contribution to the community and we struck up a conversation about public spaces, litter problems and keeping shared spaces green.

There is no doubt that gardening is a bringer-together of people.

    Up the Guerillas!
