how much can a fritillaria imperialis take?

My 4 year old Fritillaria imperialis has this year been totally stripped of every leaf and flower and looks like a massacred green stalk. Is this the end for it? Done well in my garden for several years and never been eaten like this. Is it sluggs or lilly beetles?
