What can I grow in the same planter as strawberries?
in Fruit & veg
I have a large planter with a number of strawberry plants.
I have some aubergine, cucumber, courgette and tomatoes plants. Can any of these be planted in the same trough as the strawberries?
Thanks

Not the courgette. They get huge but they look great in a container. Don't know about the others.
If the latter tell us more about the planter - size, depth, growing medium, site etc.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Planter size 1.20mx 40cmx 35cm.
Among the strawberries.
South facing, garden compost mixed with mutipurpose compost.
I have a Roma and Lucciola tomato, perfection ridge and Adam cucumber, Bambino courgette, Moneymaker and Baby Belle aubergine, if that helps.
I also have another planter of similar size which has not been filled yet.
I would keep the strawberries on their own as they'll grow bigger and send out runners that you can then save and pot up to renew your stock. Strawberry plants are best renewed every 3 years on a rotational basis as they crop less as they get older.
Use the remaining planter for toms and aubergines and have cucumber and courgette in their own pots or planters as they have different feeding and watering needs.
I have one planter with a raspberry cane in with Strawberries last year as a bit of an experiment, they didn't do well so this year they are searated.. Good luck with your efforts..
Thanks for the advice. My strawberries are a mixture of new, runners and 2 year old ones. I will leave that planter as it, maybe plant a couple of annual in it. The toms and aubergines will go in the other planter.
