Cold Frame & Peas

Hiya - newbie here!!! 2 really quick questions, is there much difference between an unheated greenhouse and a cold frame? I've got some greenhouse plants that need hardening off and I can't see much difference between putting them outside in the day and in a cold frame that's open? Maybe I'm just being thick!!! Also my peas in the greenhouse are getting leggy, anyone else planted out their early peas???

The greenhouse, being a lot bigger, will have a more stable temperature than the cold frame. To harden off the plants, start them off in the closed cold frame, and open it slightly on sunny days (otherwise they'll bake).  Even when it's open, the frame provides some protection from wind and birds, and its structure will hold a little heat.

I'd get the peas out asap and sow some more outside as well.

  • Thanks I will get the peas out and have a look at making a cold frame! ????
