Yes, Aym, the pot goes in the soil but the tape is above ground, about 2 to 3 inches. The slugs won't climb up over the copper-taped rim. I just remove and store them for next year. It really does help to get plants started.
The tape won't affect the plants but the slugs will climb over the trailing plants. There may also be slugs already living within the raised bed which will, effectively, become prisoners. I have not tried doing a big area like this but others may be able to advise.

A bit of a Newby question, but is it OK for plants to come into contact with the copper tape?
I am going to put some tape around the tops of my raised flower beds and some of the flowers will be trailing over the tops, over the top of the tape.
