My clematis avalanche,which hasflowered prolifically for the past 3 years has produced a much reduced show this year. It is planted against a west facing house wall.How can I increse the flowering next year?

Mine has just a few flowers this year also
I recently planted this variety and it is covered in buds just waiting to burst. I was expecting it to flower earlier. Any growing tips would be appreciated. I've got it planted on a west wall in Sussex.
Mine hasn't put on much growth this year and has very few flowers. I renewed the top couple of inches of compost and gave it a feed last week, hoping it would rally a bit.
