iris/cutting-back

I bought several beautiful iris last year and they have flowered magnificatly again this year.I watched Monty Don planting new iris on Gardners World and they were cut down to about six inches. Query;do I cut back my iris before winter or leave all the leaves on?

It's when you've didvided a clump of Iris and are replanting them that you cut the foliage back by half. The root system wouldn't be able to support that amount of top growth. Cutting the leaves down means the plant can concentrate it's energy on building up the roots. Your Iris will just die back naturally for the winter so no need to chop!

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
