Hi folks, planted this a couple of years ago in a pot along with some nerines.

It's some kind of summer bulb, there were two in the packet. It has never flowered and the nerines seem to have vanished. I used a gritty compost mix as per planting instructions (I remember that much).

I know it's not a bog standard lilly, because I've never buy them.

Any ideas?

Crinum x powellii probably. Likes good moist soil. Christopher Lloyd grew some in a bog. They're sad things on my dry soil. Bulbs get enormous, plant it out, sun and moisture and wait.

I hope you're right nutcutlet, just had a google and that looks lovely.

Whilst trying to recall what it was I kept thinking of an amaryllis type thing (even though I knew it wasn't).

I'll get it a bit wetter and hope for some flowers this year.

Note to self: labels, labels, labels! image

labels, yes. good idea. I've just planted something labeled CL. Looks like a codonopsis so hope it's in the right place.

re the crinum. these bulbs are HUGE when mature,9'' to a foot across, I'm not kidding. (and would need an enormous pot).

I was given 4 originally and there wasn't much room left in a spud sack.

The pot it's currently in is 9" high and 10" wide at the top.

I think I may have to try and find it a spot facing south in the front garden if that's not big enough, I worry that it will get chomped though as I have a lot of problems with snails in that area.

Just in case it does flower this year and I'm asked about it, how do you pronounce the name? Is it crin like crinoline or cry like crime?

I pronounce as crime but that doesn't mean I'm rightimage

Thanks nutcutlet, I had a sudden brainwave and thought to look on YouTube.

They all say crime in the videos, all American though.

    Crime it is then. image
