Pinching Out Peppers

To Pinch or Not to Pinch, That is the question image

I've never grown sweet peppers before, they've got to a good height in their pots on the windowsill (4 sets of leaves) but I'm just thinking I maybe should pinch them out.

Anyone know whether I should or not?

Thanks image

I grow chillies which are the same, I have pinched out before but they will take a bit longer to flower, I left them last year and they did bush out by themselvesimage
  • Thanks Logan,

I shall leave them be image

  • I've read that putting the pot on its side and rotating on a regular basis encourages the branching

Which variety are they. I'm growing Ringo and Marconi both hopefully will grow to over 4ft, they are about 18' now, too small to pinch the top's off just yet.

I have never pinched out chillis, they branch naturally anyway.

  • Zoomer, they are Mr Fothergill's Sweet Minimix (seed packet from Morrisons)

They're mini peppers (multi coloured), I figured I had more chance of getting a crop with mini ones as they're going to be on the sunny patio in a container image

Yes, mini peppers produce more pods, and more quickly. Make sure they are protected from wind, they don't like to be exposed. Also don't put them out until the nights are warm, ideally above 10C, cold can stunt growth, or even kill them if they get a frost.

They'll go on my nice sheltered but sunny patio but not for a long time yet image
