Echinops
I am contemplating buying a packet of Echinop (Globe Thistle) seeds to sow straight away but can I expect them to grow big enough to flower this summer/autumn? I have a current obsession for Alliums and noticed that these were like mini prickly versions so was thinking I may give them a shot
Thanks

I think the earliest they would flower is next year. The garden centres have some plants in in the perennial sections, if you want flowers this year.
In sowed some last year and they didn't flower. They look nice and string now though And I expevt them to flower this year.
I also bought some as small plants and they did flower. Really nice flowers, quite late on, and I have kept some dried....but the leaves look very weed-like.
Seeds sown this year are unlikely to flower this year but should make good strong plant for next year. They will grow tall and the flowers are very attractive to bees and other pollinators. The foliage is noticeably tatty towards the end of the season so I clear it all away in autumn. Mine self seed with gay abandon so be prepared to clear babies in spring - or donate them to charity sales and friends..
Thanks,
I might just buy a plant or 2 this year then to speed up the flowering process. Don't think my living room can take anymore seedlings.
