Climbing plant

DelmarDelmar Posts: 3

hi

can you help identify a climbing plant I found at Chester Zoo near the jaguar enclosure, growing over the adjacent toilet block?

the plant is currently in flower (April) and the scent is very sweet and strong.

the flowers are not immediately obvious but are not insignificant and are in clusters. The buds have a purplish hue and are paler when open.

The plant would seem to be evergreen. The leaves are oval and dark green and there are three to a stem.

The plant is well over 10' high (could be over 20 but hard to see the full extent from the ground) has woody stems which are several inches in girth near the root.

I have look at pictures on the internet but have not been able to find it. I have also asked the Zoo but have not had any reply.

I lookforward to your suggestions!!

Definitely not armandii, Sollya or Akiba quinta.

Familiar with these and readily discoverable on Google.

    Will check out Stautonia

    thanks all.

Just checked on line and am pretty sure it is stauntonia.

The description seems to fit as do the pictures.

    Thanks darren636.

I need to find out the name.

It was very purple with a great fragrance.
